Further Consultation Period (commencing 24.7.17)

Due to a "technical hitch" there will be a further consultation period regarding the proposed amalgamation of Downs Way School with St Mary's School.

This "technical hitch" relates to a detail of the process, rather than the principle of the amalgamation. Surrey County Council and the Governing Bodies of both schools remain committed to the amalgamation, subject to the consultation.

Please see below for further details;-

Downs Way School Statutory Notice (please click on the link to the left to access the notice)

Dear parents, carers, staff and neighbours,

Thank you once again for your time, interest and input to the consultation about the proposed amalgamation of St Mary’s juniors with Downs Way infants together with the expansion of St Mary’s juniors by 30 places per year. We are very pleased with the number of responses.

The results of this initial consultation on the educational model has been reviewed by Surrey County Council (SCC), the Dioceses (SDBE) and the two schools and it is clear from the responses that a significant majority are in favour of us progressing.  All the issues you raised have been considered and will be responded to either in immediate action, such as the need for better traffic management around St Mary’s or in how we develop a site fit for the future which will be subject to a separate planning application and consultation.

The final decisions as to whether this proposal proceeds was with the relevant Cabinet member for SCC and given that approval has now been received we can now progress to the next stage in the consultation process.

As we outlined in our presentation we are now at the beginning of the formal statutory consultation process which lasts for four weeks, starting on the 25 January and ending on the 22 February 2017.  Copies of the statutory documents and the full consultation document and summary of the results of our discussions so far can be found on this page on our web site.

We really appreciate the time you have taken to respond so far and would really value your continued input as we travel this journey together. As with the previous consultation you are invited to respond by:

a. Accessing the consultation online on the ‘Surrey Says’ website: and searching for the school’s consultation (school name or post code), or by scrolling through the list of open consultations.

b. Completing the consultation response form that is available below the Consultation Document. You can email the form or print it, complete it and send it back to the address below.
